2012 Motion Picture Reel from Andy Sapp on Vimeo.

Where do I even start? This is a project that I have been wanting to do for years. On the surface, it is merely a 3-year montage of footage I have shot using my Canon 7D since diving head-first into the realm of DSLR videography. But I feel strongly, that it is impossible to view this video from the surface. In fact, this video pulls you into the very depths of my heart and soul in ways I never thought possible. I stand strong in my conviction that I have never created anything in my life up to this point that harnesses and exposes that very same unfiltered heart and soul. Simply stated… this is the most powerful work I have ever created. Read more

I recently had the honor of revamping my good buddy Will Roegge’s logo. He wanted to give his old logo a fresh look, as well as format it with text and without. The original logo utilized lineart of a panda bear, which was a good starting point.

In addition to giving the panda some new life, I decided to do the same to the type. I will love Helvetica ’til the day I die… but I opted for the slightly more mature look of another personal favorite of mine: ITC Avant Garde. I modified the W and the R by hand, and love how the two letters interact with each other. For the non-text logo, I added some gradation to the logotype as if the panda were casting a shadow on the letters. A few subtle nuances tied the Gs together quite nice for the text version, which we opted out on the gradation for. This was a fun logo to work on, and I am really pleased with how it turned out! I am working on some other projects with Will… so stay tuned!

This is a roster representing some of the better logos I have designed over the years. Logo design was one of the main reasons I got into advertising/graphic design in the first place. I love the idea of a single graphic element capable of encompassing so much meaning, and leading the charge in overall representation to the public. In a world saturated with advertising and marketing, a logo can make or break you. My job is to make sure the latter never stands a chance.

I rolled up my sleeves and got to designing some new decks that are up in the Slide Style™ Deck Store… some of which I am really proud of.Don’t forget about the BIG F’N SALE going on until the end of the week! Prices have never been so low, so get it before it is GONE.

I’m proud to say that I think the full-feature turned out even better than the cover image! From a file-structure standpoint I really forged new terrain, and went crazy using adjustment layers on layer-groups choc-full of nested & masked layer-groups. I wanted to maintain maximum editability at all times. Basically a bunch of techniques nobody will ever see (that I should have been doing years ago), but I feel like I opened up some new workflows, and tapped a li’l further into Photoshop’s abilities as a compositing tool.

I totally got lost in my work while wrenching on this cover piece for S3 Magazine. Before I knew it, I had clocked over 13 hours and several revisions – specifically to the type in the main heading. I tried a few new things that really worked out well. I’m definitely excited to see this in-print!Stay tuned for the entire 6-page feature on Ameen’s car!

I had a chance to design an AWESOME shirt for Drift Alliance. The idea was to make a throwback ‘tour’ shirt that showed everywhere that drifting has taken them. Tony ran this idea by me in passing… and it was just too amazing not to be made. For those of you unfamiliar with Judas Priest… it is a tribute to their ‘British Steel’ record cover.

I’m super-excited how the design came out. It was a lot of fun to work on, and I learned a few new tricks to make vintage-looking graphics. I can’t WAIT to see these pressed up!

I had a great opportunity to design Ryan Tuerck’s hero card for Gardella Racing. In addition to the card, I was also tasked with redesigning the Gardella Racing logo. Overall I am pretty stoked with the result!

I would definitely love to wrench on more projects like these… so any of you FD teams in need… HOLLER.

DTTN! Logo Design

Another logo design that saw MANY revisions and explorations. The final version was found in the second set of variations… the first and third sets being drastically different from this batch – but altogether vital to the creative process. Further proof that your first idea is not always your best.

DMMBK Logo

This logo underwent a TON of revisions. Overall, I’m quite happy with the symmetry and overall balance of the final iteration.

I had the opportunity to design all of the ‘Hero Cards’ for the Motorsport Nationals autograph sessions. I put a lot of time into these cards, and wanted them all to be slightly different… while maintaining a cohesive feel that I developed for the flyer. Like the flyer, I wanted the design to feel vibrant with energy to help reflect the chaotic nature of the sport.

Big thanks to Cody for taking the profile pictures, and to Panda and Alex for coming through with action shots of the cars!

DriftMechaniks Demo at Motorsport Nationals

We will be down at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend for a drift demolition at the Motorsport Nationals. If you’re in or around the Atlanta-area… come on out and watch us destroy our Yokohama ADVAN Tires!I had the honour of wrenching on most of the print-collateral for the drifting portion of this event, and I think it turned out killer! I wanted the flyer to be packed with energy, and be something nobody in their right mind would throw away.
