I still have SOOOO much to write up about this… but this video that BFGoodrich just released should do a good job of explaining things in the meantime. Click the drivers at the end to jump-off to each participant’s personal experience. My edit. Yes, my phone rings in the middle of it.

Have I mentioned that this event was TOTALLY INSANE the production level from this event was OFF THE CHARTS!? If not… I will.

Full write-up SOON.

DriftMechaniks Demo at Motorsport Nationals

We will be down at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend for a drift demolition at the Motorsport Nationals. If you’re in or around the Atlanta-area… come on out and watch us destroy our Yokohama ADVAN Tires!I had the honour of wrenching on most of the print-collateral for the drifting portion of this event, and I think it turned out killer! I wanted the flyer to be packed with energy, and be something nobody in their right mind would throw away.

Tom and Tripp from Spitfire Studios asked me to come out and do some driving for a project they are working on. With a marshalling yard at our disposal, a giant white backdrop set up, and a huge crane in place… it was definitely going to be a rad shoot. My buddy David Jones was kind enough to let me borrow his (sick) Mustang.

With all my car troubles at Road Atlanta… I was worried about the e46 running well enough for the shoot. I didn’t want to leave an entire film crew stranded if my car decided to act up again. THANKS DJONES!!!

A few random snaps from the Sunday afternoon shooting session with Tripp and Tom from Spitfire.

My poor car is looking pretty hammered. A true testament to the trials and tribulations of being a dedicated track car.

Tripp sent me a cut of the footage they shot on the 22nd. It turned out RAD! The interior shots utilized a rollcage-mounted Canon 5D Mark II and a steering wheel-mounted Flip Mino HD camera. All the exterior footage was shot using a RED ONE. I can’t get over the quality from the 5D Mark II. I’m super stoked they asked me to be a part of this project. It was definitely a fun Sunday afternoon of shooting.

2008 Driver Profile – Andy Sapp. from Andy Sapp on Vimeo.

This edit is well over a year in the making. This cut is as close to perfect as I will ever get it. This video is the most thorough, polished, and complete example of my abilities behind the wheel… and my abilities behind a computer. Period. This digital short showcases the past 3 years of my professional drift effort. Features amalgamated footage from Formula Drift and Nopi Drift events, as well as various Nopi/NDRA demos, grassroots competitions, practice events, SPEED TV, and other television appearances.

Very very special thanks to everyone who provided me with the footage to edit this video.

Soundtrack by Slayer.

Keep drifting fun. OR ELSE.

My buddy Timbo gave me a call on Wednesday saying that Spitfire Studios was shooting a commercial for Cartoon Network, and they needed a stunt driver. They rented a Mustang for the shoot, but at the last second asked if I could bring the e46. So last night, I gladly trailered ol’ grrrl up, and headed smack-dab downtown to the 5th floor of a parking deck next to the Marriott.

They rented the entire parking deck out, and sprayed it down with water for a better look on-camera. The focus was on these super-cool plastic figures, that are part of CN’s new action flick campaign. They were shooting with an insane RED camera in 4K HD. The image playback was AMAZING. They were using a SKATER dolly, and were remotely rack focusing between the character and the drifting.

Cartoon Network Commercial Shoot

This shoot was an amazing opportunity, and an awesome experience. It is a little different having to hit your marks every time when there is a full crew depending on you. It was similar to hitting normal clipping points… but different pressure-wise. BIG thanks to Timbo for the referral, and to Spitfire Studios for having me out. I never thought I would be allowed to drift through a parking deck in downtown Atlanta, and get paid in the process. The commercial should begin airing next week… so keep an eye out on Cartoon Network!

Simply an amazing weekend. The 2006 Nopi Nationals drift demos were an enormous hit! With over 100,000 people in attendance, this was by far the largest show we have done to date. Words can’t really describe how amazing things went.

HUGE HUGE thanks to Kieran from Gran Turismo East for such amazing support over the weekend! The BFGoodrich G-Force Sport tires performed absolutely flawlessly. I couldn’t have driven past the limit without them, or their support!

Atco Raceway was subject to another crazy Batlground drift demo at the 6th round of the Nopi/NDRA Xbox Cup Racing Series! The police wouldn’t let the crowd anywhere near the drifting, and also stepped in to restrict our show with HEAVY limitation. We weren’t allowed to really do burnouts, get near walls, and were prohibited from doing rodeos. In fact… we were barely allowed to tandem. It was weird, considering it was private property, and everything was heavily insured. I felt like we weren’t able to put on the kind of show that I know we can. Despite the interference, I suppose it was still a good demo… I just know it could have been better.

We landed some great coverage on Speed TV’s Nopi Tunervision. The coverage highlights some of the madness from our drift demos over the course of the weekend.
